The deep horizon incident could have been useful in my thesis about CSR
Right now, while I am finishing the last changed of my bachelor thesis, I am following the Deep Horizon incident with (regretfully) great pleasure. The pleasure is not caused by sadism. On the contrary, the PR mistakes that BP's leaders have done could acculy be used in my and mr. Olofsson's thesis.
Our thesis is about Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and we explore/investigate how CSR may be used as a Human Resource Management (HR) tool.
So far, we have been able to conclude that companies' CSR activities may increase employees' level of commitment. Thus, by engaging themself in CSR activities, companies make their employees more proud of the companies.
This can be compared with BP. So far, BP have not been socially responsible. Their PR have been catastrofic and they could have prevented the incident weeks before it happened. Thus, by using mine and mr. Olofsson's conclusion, BP's employees should not be proud of working there.
For this reason, it would have been nice to acculy get a grant or a flight ticket to explore the findings. For instance, think of how perfect a complementary analasys would have been. Would we have been able to see that BP's socially irresponsible behavior has decreased the employees' level of commitment?
Well, that is my thought. Thus, I can only dream of my chances to be part of an intersing scienece project (and I can also conclude that I have been working way too much on my thesis)
